The Story Behind Kids Explore Robotics: A Father-Son Journey to Inspire Young Minds!

Kids Explore Robotics began as a heartfelt collaboration between an experienced engineer, Vinod Agrawal (dad), and his son, Aarav Agrawal, now an engineering student at Purdue University. Aarav’s passion for robotics sparked in elementary school, where he participated in a robotics team. Although life’s changes momentarily shifted his focus, high school reignited his love for robotics through engineering and computer science courses. He realized the profound potential of robotics and felt compelled to share this excitement with younger generations.

Together, Vinod and Aarav set out with a shared mission: to inspire kids to explore STEM through hands-on, engaging, and educational robotics experiences. They wanted to teach kids the entire creative process of robotics—from identifying components and understanding how they work to designing, building, and programming robots.

However, they found a gap in the market. Existing robotics kits often lacked flexibility, reusability, and an emphasis on coding and inner mechanics. Determined to create something better, they began designing their own robots, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience that sparks creativity and excitement in kids.

Building Robots and Futures

Their first creation, "Robby the Drummer," was a resounding success. A simple yet innovative design, Robby could play drumbeats, which kids could modify through coding to create their own rhythms. This open-concept approach allowed kids to see how motors and microcontrollers worked together, igniting their curiosity and creativity. Since then, Kids Explore Robotics has introduced several more robots made from custom-crafted wooden blocks and 3D-printed parts. Each robot is designed to be simple yet powerful, offering a complete end-to-end learning experience. These robots don’t just teach mechanics and programming—they inspire a love for discovery and innovation.

The Founders: Passion and Expertise

Vinod Agrawal (Dad): Vinod, an experienced engineer with a master’s degree in electrical engineering, has over 25 years of professional experience across industries including manufacturing, finance, insurance, and education. He’s also a passionate educator and the creator of A+ TutorSoft, an online math curriculum used by students nationwide. Driven by a commitment to providing quality education, Vinod’s goal is to equip kids with essential skills for the future.

Aarav Agrawal (Son): Aarav, a bright and accomplished student, has turned his childhood passion into a mission. As a high school student (now an engineering student at Purdue University), he excelled academically, graduating as the Salutatorian of his class and earning a spot as a candidate in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Aarav’s achievements also include recognition as a Bright Ideas student. He was featured in Southside Times, Johnson County Icon, and Daily Journal.

They have used their platform to share their love of robotics, speaking at events like JA JobSpark and CareerIgnite. They have also done many classes and speaking arrangements in collaboration with several libraries and other STEM organizations. Their collaboration reflects their dedication to spreading the joy and importance of robotics education to kids from all walks of life.

A Vision for the Future

Kids Explore Robotics  is more than just a program; it’s a movement to prepare kids for a tech-driven world while fostering creativity and curiosity. With their custom-designed robots and hands-on approach, Vinod and Aarav are paving the way for a new generation of innovators.
